There have been a few posts regarding the notion of choosing your own topic. It certainly gives you another responsibility as well as a challenge. I understand those points. However, keep in mind as you matriculate through A&T and into professional life, you will be required to bring ideas "to the table." I think requiring you to conceive of and develop a topic is good practice for real world applications.
Yes especially these topics. It is kind of harder to just write when your used to getting told what to write.
