With school and this job, things are a lot more difficult than they should be. I am taking two classes, counting this one, and a job on the side. I know school comes first, but I still have to make some time for this job. Does anyone else have school and another priority?

  1. Working Fulltime at A&T; caregiver for a 84 year old grandfather and 66 year old mother with a multitude of health issues; caring for a one year old granddaughter; and school. Oh yeah, it's extremely difficult. That's why I struggle staying awake in class. Not use to "down time" as in sitting still for an extended period of time just listening. Even harder having to listen to bad language which I find totally unexcuseable.

  2. Well, you are older and much more experienced than I am. You should be used to having responsibilities to attend to. I had no idea that I was going to be driving back and forth to school everyday (2.5hrs total), then driving to charlotte and back (1hr) to deliver my work schedule, where I then have to work for 4-5hrs, then I have to do Calc II homework and believe me that is no walk in the park. On some nights, I have to care for my baby sister as my mom gets called to the hospital and doesn't get back until 3am. Leaving me with anywhere from 2-4hrs of sleep a night. I am only 18. A couple months ago all I had to worry about was going to classes and doing homework. It is a dramatic change that is definitely overwhelming me.

  3. Alexander,
You're young so hang on in there. You can handle it. I work fulltime on campus (stress city); keep a 16 month old granddaughter practically every night while my daughter works; caregiver for a 84 year old grandfather; caregiver for 65 year old mom with vascular dementia and a OCD; administrator for brother's affairs while he's working in China; mother of recently graduated high schooler whose embarking upon college orientation and such; coexisting in 18 year mariage; 50 years old with all kinds of hormonal issues; favorite neice (rising college senior) who just recently declared she was lesbian and artifically inseminated because she and her partner wanted a baby); and I am enrolled in this English class that's demanding her within the last week or so of the semester.

If I can do this with God's help and grace, you can handle work, the babysitting and your classes. Sure it would be easy if you could be a little more footloose and carefree as 18 year olds typically should be but life has a tendency to be a bit unfair at time. However, I do commend you for toughing it out and being an adult so young, most wouldn't.

Don't know if you are religious but "hang on" for God most definitely won't put more on you than you can handle.

Don't know why you driving back and forth so, perhaps we need to talk to see if there are some other options for you. Life shouldn't be that hard at 18.
